Vondelpark
Review
The Vondelpark is a public urban park of 47 hectares (120 acres) in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It is located in the stadsdeel Amsterdam Oud-Zuid, west from the Leidseplein and the Museumplein. The park was opened in 1865 and originally named the 'Nieuwe Park', but later renamed to 'Vondelpark', after (...) (from Wikipedia).
Vondelpark is Amsterdam's largest green lung. It's very long – over 1.5 kilometers, and 300 meters wide. The design of the park is basically English in nature, and it carries the name of the 17th century Dutch poet Joost Van Del Vondel. In the 70s, thousands of young people slept in the park after arriving in Amsterdam mostly in search of light drugs and free love. Today, sleeping in the park is illegal. Each summer music and film festivals take place here. The expanses of the park provide much room for all visitors, even on the weekends when it is busy. Some shops around the park rent out bicycles, which is a pleasant way of touring it.
