Little Venice
Review
Little Venice
, two minutes walk from Paddington Station, is a pool shaped like a big triangle that serves as an intersection. This is where Grand Union Canal, coming from the west, meets Regent's Canal. In 1820 this waterway was inaugurated, for the purpose of transferring goods from central London to the Thames River at the Limehouse area, a few kilometers east of the city. Amazingly, despite the major upheavals that the city has undergone, the waterways have been preserved, cleaned and serve today as a wonderfully green and tranquil corridor of sorts. Long boats suitable for sailing on narrow canals dock on both sides of the canal near Little Venice. On the bank of the pool a long boat is anchored, and serves as the Waterside Café. A few tables are perched on the pier.
