Aix-en-Provence
Review
Aix
(medieval Occitan Aics), or
Aix-en-Provence
(Provençal Occitan: Ais de Provença in classical norm, or Ais de Prouvènço in Mistralian norm) is a city-commune in southern France, some 30 km (19 mi) north of Marseille. It is in the region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, in the département of Bouches-du-Rhône, of which it is a subprefecture. The population of Aix is approximately 143,000(...)(From Wikipedia).
This elegant
, tree-lined city with fountains, literary cafés and markets that overflow with fresh Provençal produce makes an ideal place to spend a day catching your breath and watching the world go by.

Today is a “drive-free” today, so relax and soak up the Provençal atmosphere in Aix-en-Provence. Walk along Cours Mirabeau, follow the Cézanne Trail and visit a Provençal Market on Place Richelme.
Day 1:
Start
the day on
Place Richelme
to catch one of the best markets in Provence, if not the whole of France. Meander south through the warren of narrow streets that make up Vieil Aix, the Old Quarter, until you reach
Cours Mirabeau
. Walk along the broad and leafy avenue of
Cours Mirabeau
, the social center of Aix. Stop for a drink in any one of the busy cafés that flank each side and then continue to the grand
Fontaine de la Rotonde
that dominates its western point. From there, cross to
Place du
Général de Gaulle
to the Tourist Office for the Cézanne Trail. Stay overnight in Aix-en-Provence and then drive to St Tropez in the morning.
The Cézanne Trail
– Le Circuit de Cézanne
Begin at the tourist office, where you can pick up a guide, and then follow bronze markers around Aix to retrace Cézanne’s footsteps. His final studio, Atelier Paul Cézanne, showcases the artist’s tools, although sadly you won’t find any paintings there.

Lavendar Fields bloom from June to August in the Luberon, around the Mont-Ventoux, in the region of Sault and that of Valréas; such amazing scenery and atmosphere make the lavender fields one of the summer Must-Sees in Provence
