Arles
Review
Arles (Provençal Occitan: Arle in both classical and Mistralian norms) is a city and commune in the south of France, in the Bouches-du-Rhône department, of which it is a subprefecture, in the former province of Provence (...) (from Wikipedia).
When the Romans
built their amphitheater and network of shaded streets, they laid the foundation for a picturesque city that has barely changed over the last 2000 years. Narrow streets, plane trees and painted wooden shutters, combined with a passion for bullfighting, make for an intoxicating atmosphere.
Arles seduced Vincent Van Gogh
and if you get the feeling that you’ve been here before, perhaps you have, through some of his most famous work.

, where you can visit
Les Arènes
(The Roman Amphitheater), the Roman ruins of the
Théâtre Antique
, and
Van Gogh’s Café.
Day 1:
Park wherever you can close to the old city walls and then follow the signs into the city center to see the highlight of Arles: Les Arènes – The Roman Amphitheater. Follow Rue Diderot away from the amphitheater then take the first left to reach the Théâtre Antique. From the Théâtre Antique, turn left along Rue de la Calade and then right on Rue du Palais to reach the “Café Van Gogh” on Place du Forum. Stay in Arles overnight.

southeast of Arles (along the Rhone River) are the Camargue wetlands where wild horses roam and buffalo - should keep an eye out .
