Nice
Review
Located in the southeast of France along the Mediterranean coast, Nice is the capital of the Côte d'Azur - the French Riviera. Millions of visitors from across the globe plan a Nice trip every year, with the majority touching down in the summer months when the weather is hot and rain is all but a distant memory. A growing number of tourists however are choosing to visit the French city during the mild winter months.
The city is served by Nice Côte d'Azur Airport, France’s busiest airport outside of Paris. Visitors also arrive in the city via road and rail – Nice Ville railway station travels internationally as well as across France – while an assortment of cruise lines call in at the Port of Nice. Regardless of how visitors arrive in this cosmopolitan city, all find that there is plenty to enjoy.
Amongst the landmarks that visitors seek out are the Matisse Museum, celebrating the works of famed French artist, Henri Matisse; the Russian Cathedral, just one of the buildings that hark back to a time when the Russian elite vacationed in the French Riviera; and the city’s archaeological museum and ruins that date back to Roman times.
Like much of the South of France, Nice residents and visitors alike generally enjoy the easy-going nature of the city. The best place to soak in the atmosphere is the Promenade des Anglais, which features cafés, restaurants, sun-loungers, and a wealth of other ways to unwind. Alternatively, take a walk along the seafront, taking in the cliffs as you do, or visit the numerous markets, boutiques, and shops located in the city center. The Cours Saleya flower market is a favorite with many visitors.
Finally, if you’re looking to pad out your Nice trip plan, try taking an excursion to one of the nearby coastal towns or even experience the glitz and glamor of Cannes to the west, or Monaco to the east, both of which are readily accessible.
Fashionable yet somehow rustic, the city of Nice remains one of the highlights of Provence.

Day 1:
Spend the morning
strolling through Nice’s terracotta-colored
Old Town
before emerging on the
Quai des États-Unis
on the seafront. Walk to the east and climb the hill of the
Park du Château
public park. Climb back down again and walk towards the west on the Quai des États-Unis as it becomes the fashionable
Promenade des Anglais
. Relax on the beach, although be aware that it’s very pebbly!
In the afternoon, drive to the scenic town of
St-Paul-de-Vence
before returning to Nice.
