Melbourne Review

Located in southeast Australia in the state of Victoria, Melbourne is one of the country’s most popular destinations, both with international and domestic tourists. Nearly two million overseas visitors plan a trip to Melbourne every year.

Melbourne Airport – which is located 14 miles from the city center in the suburb of Tullamarine – is the city’s primary arrival point, with public and private transport available to connect visitors to the tourist districts. The city is home to the largest tram network in the world, and features a comprehensive bus service. Those looking to get about the city on a daily basis may wish to utilize bicycles, as an extensive bike network can be found throughout.

The city features a wide array of attractions, including Melbourne Zoo and Melbourne Aquarium, both of which are extremely popular with both younger and older visitors. Meanwhile, the Queen Victoria Market and Federation Square offer a host of modern amenities, including restaurants, cafés and shops.

To witness a magnificent view of the city and beyond, choose between the Melbourne Observation Deck at the Rialto Towers or the Eureka Skydeck, both of which offer stunning views. At nearly 300m tall, the latter is the tallest observation deck in the southern hemisphere.

Melbourne is also home to a number of arts venues, including the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne Museum, and the Victorian Arts Center. This latter hosts opera, ballet, theater, and orchestral performances.

Aussie’s love their sport and there’s nowhere better in the city to catch a game than Melbourne Cricket Ground. The MCG hosts both cricket and Australian Rules football, and is the largest stadium in the country.

Other popular attractions that frequent many a Melbourne trip plan include Crown Casino, the largest casino complex in the Southern Hemisphere; Luna Park, an amusement park located in the suburb of St. Kilda; the Shrine of Remembrance, which honors those lost at war; and the Royal Exhibition Building, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that was originally constructed for the World’s Fair in 1880.

Those heading to Melbourne to enjoy a traditional Australian vacation of sun, sand and sea are in luck. The likes of St. Kilda, Williamstown and Brighton beaches are all within 10 miles of the city center, and all of offer a fantastic locale in which to relax.
