Destination creator (Voyajo Team)
One of the most popular tourist destinations on the continent, Cape Town in South Africa is home to stunning scenery, friendly people, and a relaxed atmosphere that might convince you to never leave.
Cape Town International Airport is the most common arrival point, but some visitors do choose to take a cruise around the Cape of Good Hope from the likes of Durban or Port Elizabeth.
The most prominent natural feature in all of South Africa is Table Mountain, which looms high above Cape Town. This 1,000-plus meter high mountain features an unusual flat plateau at its peak that is some two miles wide. Many visitors planning a trip to Cape Town decide to hike up the mountain to enjoy a spectacular view. Those less keen on such exertion can hop aboard the cableway and casually make their way to the top.
Among the other natural features in and around Cape Town are its many beaches, many of which feature beautiful white sands. Tourists and locals alike flock to these beaches to enjoy the South African sunshine and the fairly warm waters of the South Atlantic. Among the popular beach pursuits are swimming, surfing, snorkeling, and scuba diving.
Those planning a trip to Cape Town should also consider the marine and wildlife opportunities on offer. Visitors can enjoy a spot of whale-watching, take an outing to see penguins, visit an ostrich farm, and enjoy a whole slew of other activities within the region. Boat trips on the Atlantic are a great way to take in the awe-inspiring backdrop of Table Mountain and the coastline as a whole.
Boat trips are also available to Robben Island, which served as a long-time jail for political prisoners, including Nelson Mandela. Today it is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
