City Hall is the headquarters of the Greater London Authority (GLA) which comprises the Mayor of London and London Assembly. It is located in Southwark, on the south bank of the River Thames near Tower Bridge. It was designed by Norman Foster and opened in July 2002, two years after the Greater (...) (from Wikipedia).
The new City Hall which was designed by Norman Foster is not symmetric, and slants on its side towards the south. This was done in order to conserve energy for heating and cooling, and to allow natural sunlight into the building. This is a public building and the entrance is free of charge. Upon entering the building, one feature is especially prominent: its great transparency, which allows for a dialogue between the internal space and the view outside. The spiral stairwell 'climbs' from within on to the building's surface and gives a good view of the employees' offices and the Assembly Hall of the City Council. When you arrive at the top floors, the main thing to take in is the view outside. The Thames and Tower Bridge nearby is suddenly seen from a new and unfamiliar angle.
