Libertador Building, Defense Ministry headquarters in Puerto Madero, Buenos Aires.
The second largest country in South America, Argentina is fast becoming one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Southern Hemisphere. Famed for its natural beauty and colorful cities, more than five million visitors annually plan a trip to Argentina. A paradise for nature-lovers, photographers (budding and professional) and eco-tourists, Argentina has an abundance of natural attractions to take the breath away.
Buenos Aires, the nation’s capital, is the tourist destination of choice for many. Here visitors can enjoy a variety of attractions (historical and modern) while taking in the culture and atmosphere on offer.
Visitors can see wildlife in abundance in the Ibera Wetlands; marvel at the unique shape of Monte Fitz Roy, found in the Andes; visit Los Glaciares National Park and see the Perito Moreno glacier, which advances two meters per day; journey to the Valdes Peninsula, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that features a wildlife reserve; or look on in awe at Aconcaua – the highest peak in all of South America.
Perhaps the most striking of all of Argentina’s natural assets, and one that almost has to appear on any Argentina trip plan, is Iguazú Falls. Located on the border of Argentina and Brazil, Iguazú Falls features some 275 waterfall drops, all of which fall between 197 and 269 ft. The stunning scene rivals the magnificence of Niagara Falls. Watching as the water crashes down from the “Devil’s Throat” is something that cannot be forgotten.
Those wishing to experience something truly unique should head to Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the whole world. Located close to Cape Horn, those that visit the city are soon aware that the only thing south is Antarctica.
With a truly wondrous sight at every turn, Argentina’s not just about stunning scenery. Those spectacular mountains make for excellent ski resorts, with Bariloche offering excellent skiing and mountaineering, as well as chocolate and confectionary. It can definitely be considered the Switzerland of the Southern Hemisphere.
