Visiting Tallinn
Although Tallinn is one of the smallest capital cities in Europe, it is very impressive for foreign visitors. Its Old Town area was recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. There are many ways of visiting Tallinn but one of most popular ones is during the Baltic cruise. As an important city and port, it is included on the route of many cruise lines which gives the opportunity of discovering the city during day excursions.
Depending on how long your ship is scheduled to stay in a port, you can choose exact version of the city tour that will suit you best. There are many local travel agencies which organize half-day and full-day
guided tours in Tallinn
with private guide in many different languages. Most interesting part of the city – Old Town is pretty compact and is located just a few minutes on foot from the port and that makes it possible to have a walking city tour and see most of highlights of capital of Estonia.
Of course if you have a bit more time and want to see more than just Old Town, there are also some interesting sites further from the centre and in the countryside of Tallinn. For those who like history and culture, we recommend for example Kadriorg Palace – built by Tsar Peter the Great for his wife Catherine. If you have never been in Eastern Europe before, you could also visit Lasnamae district to see typical communist architecture of estate from the 70-ties and 80 –ties.
No matter which type of tour you choose in Tallinn, you should remember to spend a while of free time in one of nice cafes in the centre and have a pleasant walk along some narrow streets of Old Town to feel and experience its unique atmosphere. There is also another very important thing – to watch out for the time and not being late at the port which is not so hard when being amazed by such beautiful city like Tallinn.
